Aida Greenbury

Aida Greenbury spearheads sustainability for Asia Pulp & Paper Group (APP), one of the largest pulp and paper producers in the world. The group manages dozens of manufacturing sites and substantial pulpwood concessions.

Supported by a global sustainability team and various international best-in-field experts, Aida works to ensure a long-term economic, social and environmental approach to paper-making through multi stakeholder coordination and ground-level action.

Since joining the company in 2004, Ms. Greenbury has been the key player behind major sustainability achievements in APP’s supply chains, forest conservation programs and is the chief architect of both APP’s Sustainability Roadmap: Vision 2020, launched in June 2012, and APP’s Forest Conservation Policy which came into effect in February 2013.

Her ambition to drive the company towards leadership in sustainability is also reflected in the company’s 2014 commitment to help protect and restore rainforest landscapes in Indonesia. Aida has initiated a strict material traceability verification and risk evaluation policy along with the associated audit process. This policy required APP to restructure its supply chains and is implemented to ensure the sustainability of all fiber entering APP pulp mills.

For many of APP’s stakeholders, Ms. Greenbury’s most important contribution has been to develop the company’s approach to transparency and disclosure. This has included working directly with Greenpeace since 2013 on the development of sustainability policies and separately inviting the Rainforest Alliance to undertake its first ever evaluation of a deforestation free policy and agreeing to the report being published in full (2015) for all observers to review.

Ms. Greenbury frequently speaks at global sustainability seminars and events, provides advice for inter-governmental sustainability policies and is a spokesperson for APP’s sustainability program in the international media.
