Belantara Foundation received a donation of 1,100,000 ¥ at the 10,000 Tree Planting Initiative Event
Pekanbaru, Riau (09/01/2019) — Asia Pulp & Paper (APP Sinarmas) collaborated with the Japanese NGO, Great Forest Wall, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), as well as various stakeholders in holding a tree planting event with the theme "6th Year Anniversary of 10,000 Tree Planting Initiatives" in Riau Province.
Going on for six years with the Japanese community (APP Sinarmas's Stakeholders), this initiative is a form of APP Sinarmas's commitment to the restoration and protection of Indonesia's forests, which includes the GSK-BB area.
Ten thousand tree seedlings were planted in an area of 20 hectares in the Giam Siak Kecil Bukit Batu (GSK-BB) area, specifically in Teluk Rimba Village, Koto Gasib Sub-district, Siak Regency, which is also known for its Sumatran tigers and elephants habitat.
The initiative involves the local community and is hoped to increase community awareness on the importance of protecting the forests, and also teach the community the benefits of non-timber forest products in improving their economic welfare.
As in previous years, the Belantara Foundation had the opportunity to become a recipient of donations from Japanese individual donors. In the event, Mr. Mieko Nakatsuka donated 1,000,000 ¥, and APP Japan Limited Company donated 100,000 ¥, which was received directly by the Belantara Foundation's Executive Director, Dr. Sri Mariati.
We are very thankful and will use the donation to carry out conservation and community empowerment programs in the GSK-BB and Senepis grant areas in Riau Province.
Belantara Foundation is very grateful to funders and donors who have contributed to support the Belantara Foundation's programs to preserve the sustainability of ecosystems and nature.
